Alcorn County Sheriff Department

The position of Sheriff in Alcorn County is an elected position that spans four years and follows an at-large election process. Overview of Alcorn County

Alcorn County is situated in the northeastern part of Mississippi, United States. With a population of 34,740 as of the 2020 census, the county encompasses an area of 401 square miles. Corinth serves as the county seat. Governor James L. Alcorn, a notable figure in Mississippi’s history, is honored through the county’s name. Alcorn County is part of the Corinth Micropolitan Statistical Area.


The county was established in 1870, carved out of portions of Tippah and Tishomingo counties. It played a significant role during the American Civil War, being the site of the Siege of Corinth, an early campaign in the war. Geographically, Alcorn County is the smallest county in Mississippi, spanning 400 square miles of land, with an additional 1.3 square miles of water.
