The Anne Arundel County – Jennifer Road Detention Center is a medium-sized correctional facility located in Annapolis, Maryland. Situated on 11 acres of land in the metropolitan area, the facility has been in operation since 1937. With a capacity to accommodate 631 pre-trial detainees, the center not only serves as a prison but also provides reintegration programming for male convicted criminals.


Ensuring a minimum level of security, the Anne Arundel County – Jennifer Road Detention Center plays a vital role in maintaining the safety of the community. Located in Anne Arundel County, the facility handles an average of 366 bookings per month and is overseen by a dedicated team of 119 staff members. Additionally, the center offers various work programs within its premises, with over 315 prisoners engaged in tasks such as kitchen duties, laundry services, and other activities.


In addition to its primary operations, the staff at the Anne Arundel County – Jennifer Road Detention Center also manages the Anne Arundel County Work Leave Center (WFC). Guidelines for Visitation

 Visitors at the Jennifer Road Detention Center are permitted one visit per week to see inmates. These visits are conducted on a non-contact basis.


  • A maximum of two adults and two children are allowed to visit an inmate at a time, as long as they check in together. Children must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
  • Each visit can last up to one hour. The facility provides a visiting schedule, which can be obtained by calling (410) 222-7374. Alternatively, visitors can use the Inmate Locator option on the official website www.aacounty.org/services-and-programs/inmate-locator to find an inmate’s housing location and other details.
  • To gain entry, ALL VISITORS must present a valid, unexpired driver’s license, government-issued ID, or passport. If using a passport, visitors must also provide a piece of mail displaying their current mailing address, such as a utility bill or phone bill.
  • Commissary deposits can be made through accesscorrections.com, by phone at (866) 345-1884, or by using the kiosk located in the Detention Center Lobby.
  • Visitors with disabilities who require special accommodations must make the request upon arrival at the facility.
  • Proper attire is mandatory during visits at the Jennifer Road Detention Center. Revealing, suggestive, and provocative clothing is strictly prohibited. Visitors must wear appropriate footwear and dress in a manner befitting a business and public agency setting.

 

The Jennifer Road Detention Center enforces a dress code for visitors to maintain a respectful and appropriate environment. The following types of clothing are not permitted for both male and female visitors:


  • See-through apparel
  • Shirts and blouses with plunging necklines
  • Pants and shorts with high-cut splits
  • Halter tops
  • Cropped shirts or jerseys
  • Mini skirts or dresses
  • Shorts above the mid-thigh line
  • Form-fitting clothes, such as leotards, spandex, and leggings
  • Clothes that expose a person’s midriff, side, or back
  • Tube tops or tank tops


Please note that the above list is not exhaustive. If any member of the Detention Center’s staff determines that your attire is inappropriate, revealing, suggestive, or provocative, you will be asked to leave and return in clothing that complies with the dress code. It is essential to adhere to these guidelines to ensure a respectful and comfortable visitation experience for all.

Posting a Mail for Inmates

When sending mail to the facility, please follow these guidelines to ensure proper delivery:


  1. Use plain white envelopes that are either legal or letter sized, and write on plain or lined white paper.
  2. Each piece of mail must include the inmate’s first and last name, the sender’s first and last name, and a complete return address.
  3. Failure to comply with these rules will result in the mail being treated as contraband. Please note that this list is not exhaustive.


If contraband is discovered in your mail, one of the following actions will be taken:


  1. The mail will be returned to you.
  2. If the contraband poses a health or safety risk to individuals or the facility, it will be safely destroyed.
  3. In cases where the contraband is relevant to a criminal investigation, it will be confiscated as evidence.


Please ensure that your mail meets the specified requirements to avoid any issues or delays in processing.


Sending Inmate Money

To deposit money into an inmate’s commissary account at Anne Arundel County – Jennifer Road Detention Center in Maryland, you have several approved options:


  • Onsite deposits can be made at the kiosk located in the lobby of Anne Arundel County – Jennifer Road Detention Center. Cash, debit cards, and credit cards are accepted for these deposits. 
  • Online deposits can be made using the JPay online payment service. This allows you to securely transfer funds to the inmate’s commissary account. 
  • Money orders can be sent via the US post office, Western Union, or a reputable bank. Ensure that the money order includes the necessary details and is addressed correctly.

Conversations Via Telephone

  1. Direct Call: Inmates can set up an account with a third-party call services provider and fund it accordingly. This enables them to make calls using the available funds in their account. It is important for inmates to manage and allocate their funds appropriately to ensure continued communication.
  2. Collect Call: Another option is the collect call arrangement, where the receiver of the call incurs the costs associated with it. In this case, the inmate can place a collect call, and the recipient of the call is responsible for paying the charges incurred during the conversation.


These calling options provide inmates with the opportunity to stay connected with their approved contacts while adhering to the designated call policies and procedures at the facility.
